Observe Nuc Beehive (Queen Rearing Nuc Box)
- Eco-Friendly Build: Made with non-toxic, durable density board, it creates a safe, long-lasting home for your bees.
- Clear Observation Panels: Transparent PVC side walls give you full visibility into the hive. Check comb building, feeding, and queen activity with minimal disruption.
- Multi-Speed Entrance Gate: The adjustable 4-position entrance lets you control bee traffic, prevent escape, and adapt to different bee species (Italian Bee or Chinese Bee).
- Compact & Portable: Its lightweight design lets you move and set it up easily in your apiary. It works perfectly for mating nucs or small-scale queen rearing.
- Comb Frame Included: We include one pre-sized comb frame, ready for you to add foundation or comb as needed.
How to Use (Queen Rearing & Mating Guide)
- Prepare Feed: Open the top lid and place bee feed (we recommend fondant candy) in the feeder compartment to keep the colony nourished.
- Prime the Comb: Lightly brush honey on the comb to encourage bees to settle in and accept the new space.
- Install the Foundation: Attach a small piece of comb foundation to the included frame. Keep the foundation small enough so bees outnumber the available comb space. This helps workers focus on building comb and caring for the colony.
- Introduce the Bees & Queen:
- Spray both the virgin queen and worker bees with a light sugar-water/alcohol mix (1 part white liquor : 1 part cool boiled water) to calm them.
- Place 200–500 worker bees into the nuc first, then introduce the queen through the 4th (most restricted) entrance gate. You can also place them all together after spraying.
- Acclimatize the Colony: Place the nuc inside a foam box, then set it in a cool, dark area for 24 hours (or overnight) to let bees settle.
- Set Up the Permanent Location: Choose a sheltered spot in your apiary. Place the foam box under shade, then weigh it down with bricks or stones to block direct sunlight, wind, and rain. Take precautions against ants at the site.
- Release the Bees Gradually:
- Open the entrance to the position matching your bee species (1 for Italian Bees, 2 for Chinese Bees).
- Wait 4–6 hours, then check if bees are calm and not attempting to escape. If they settle, switch to the 4th (full access) entrance gate.
- Note: Virgin queens take 4–5 days to mature after emerging. Keeping them confined for an extra day or two significantly reduces absconding risk.
- Final Adjustment: Once you confirm the queen has mated successfully and the colony is stable, adjust the entrance back to the species-specific position (1 or 2) as needed.
